Communities of practice
One community for each competency: Product Owner and Product Manager, Delivery Manager and Scrum Master, development, testing, architecture, digital practice, user-centred design and business analysis. People join the communities for their craft, whatever team they work in. Each runs a year programme of 50 weekly one-hour sessions (17 at Start, 17 at Intermediate and 16 at Advanced, each level opening with a kick-off and closing with a show and tell), and has a charter and a lead, a learning path (Start, Intermediate and Advanced; Discover, Practice and Apply), self-assessment against its competency areas with a personal improvement plan, planned sessions, and a shared log of good practice, questions and lessons learned.
Why it matters
Skills grow fastest when people in the same craft learn from each other across teams. Without a community, good practice stays in one team and the same mistakes are made in the next.
